This tool is used to cut an internal thread in a drilled hole when you need repeatable form and fit. A machine tap is used when you need repeatable threads in series production.
Use suitable lubrication and keep the cutting edges clear so torque stays stable. NPT indicates a tapered pipe thread used for pressure tight joints when installed correctly. HSS G indicates a ground high speed steel tool, typically used when you need consistent cutting geometry.
