The kit for the dimension M 22 x 2.5 (coarse thread) and an insert length of 1.5 D (1.5 times nominal diameter) contains the essential components:

• 1x STI Single Cut Tap, Form D, HSS-G, M 22 x 2.5 (VÖLKEL 03041):
  • This is the special tap (Screw Thread Insert) that cuts the receiving thread (also called STI thread) for the thread insert. It has a larger dimension and a specific geometry compared to a standard M22 tap.
  • Form D: Typically a spiral flute (often approx. 45-50° helix) for efficient chip removal to the rear (ideal for blind holes, but also usable in through holes).
  • HSS-G: Made of ground high-speed steel for sharp cutting edges and precise threads.
• 5x Thread Inserts - Type S - free running M 22 x 2.5 – 1.5 D:
  • These helical inserts made of stainless steel form the new, high-strength internal thread M 22 x 2.5.

1. Drilling Out: The damaged thread is drilled out to the core hole dimension required for the STI thread using a special spiral drill bit (not included in the kit, as the focus is on thread cutting).
2. Thread Cutting: With the included STI single cut tap, the larger STI receiving thread is cut into the drilled hole.
3. Inserting: The thread insert is precisely screwed into the newly cut STI thread using the hand installation tool.
4. Tang Breaking: The driving tang of the thread insert (the small hook that the installation tool engages with) is broken off after installation with a tang break tool (not included in the kit, but available as a separate tool).
5. Finished: The new, high-strength thread in original size is ready for use.
